Lausanne, Switzerlad, July 13, 2017 - Japan and hosts Australia moved closer to tickets for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Italy & Bulgaria after registering their second wins in Pool B of the Asian qualifiers Thursday in Canberra, where they remain the only two undefeated sides.
Japan shut out New Zealand 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-10), following up on their opening day win in straight sets over Chinese Taipei.
And Australia defeated Thailand 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) after their win on Wednesday also in straight sets over New Zealand.
Play in Canberra resumes Friday morning with Chinese Taipei playing New Zealand at 11:00 local time (01:00 GMT) and Japan taking on Thailand at 14:00 (04:00 GMT), while the hosts rest.

Pool A of the Asian qualifiers, with Iran, China, Korea, Qatar and Kazakhstan, will be held 10-14 August in Tehran for two more spots from Asia to Italy/Bulgaria.
Hosts Italy and Bulgaria and defending champions Poland have already been joined in the 2018 World Championship by France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Russia, Serbia and Finland who all qualified last month through the second round of European qualifiers.
