Men’s World Championship opener a big hit on Italian TV

 

Rome, Italy, September 10, 2018 – The opening match of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship held at Foro Italico in Rome on Sunday night was a huge volleyball party – not only for the 11,170 fans that came together in the iconic tennis stadium but also for the many more following it on TV.

Rai 2 announced on Monday the figures resulting from the broadcasting of the matchup between Italy and Japan, which ended in a comprehensive 3-0 victory for the hosts captained by Ivan Zaytsev, much to the delight of a raucous home crowd.

As many as 1.4 million people followed the pre-match, thus accounting for an 8.6% share; as for the match itself, where Zaytsev top scored with 13 points, more than 1.7 million people tuned in, which accounts for a 9.6% share.
