Sander: "This victory confirms our leadership and the self-confidence of this group"

Bari, Italy, September 16, 2018 – After edging Cameroon, the USA improved their record to four wins in a row in Pool C, while waiting for the result of the matchup between Serbia and Australia to follow later on Sunday night in Bari. Matthew Anderson and his teammates remained focussed after the epic victory over Russia the night before to rout Cameroon 3-0.

Taylor Sander, captain of USA: “It was not easy to play against Cameroon after the big match with Russia. This victory confirms our leadership in this pool and the self-confidence of this group. Now we are going to enjoy our rest day. We have to keep focussed and prepare for the last challenge against Tunisia. The only thing we aim at is the first place in this pool. Only after that, we will think about the second round of this championship.”

Yvan Kody, opposite hitter of Cameroon: “We caught a shaky start to the match, especially after seeing the stunning performance of the United States against Russia. We did not manage to show that determination, which is essential when playing with such top-level teams. The absence of our team captain did the rest. We hope to work our miracle in the clash against Russia. It will be a hard task but we will try whatever possible.”
