The FIVB Volleyball World Championship trophy in Ruse
Ruse will play hosts to Pool B matches in this year's Men's World Championship, co-hosted by Bulgaria and Italy. The Pool B matches will take place from September 12 to 18 and feature reigning Olympic champions Brazil, France, Canada, the Netherlands, China and Egypt.
The trophy tour in Ruse was led by Bulgarian Volleyball Federation Vice-President Lubo Ganev, who accompanied the transfer of the trophy to the State Opera and the City Court. The mayor of the Municipality of Ruse, Mr. Plamen Stoilov officially opened proceedings and Lubo Ganev was declared “King of the Carnival” and given the key of the city of Ruse, which traditionally unlocks the carnival spirit.
Local children dressed in the colours of the six countries which will compete in the city in September, presented the Ruse tournament participants to the public. The children representing Brazil, France, Canada, the Netherlands, China and Egypt were also among the first to take photos with the trophy.
Co-hosts Bulgaria will begin their World Championship campaign in Pool D in Varna and take on reigning world champions Poland, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Iran and Finland from September 9 to 18.
