The draw for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship was held at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence on November 30, 2017 in the presence of Italy’s Minister of Sport Luca Lotti and the Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella.

 

The draw featured a total of 24 countries.

 

The top 8 teams in the world ranking on July 7, 2017 were placed across the four pools in accordance with the serpentine system. Hosts Italy (world No.4) and Bulgaria (world number 14) were seeded in positions 1 and 4 before the remaining 6 teams were added.

 

The remaining 16 teams were drawn across the bottom four positions of each of the four first round pools.

 

A total number of 244 teams participated in the qualification process for the men's and women's editions of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball World Championships. This total came from 137 national federations across the five FIVB confederations.

 

As many as 126 teams participated in the qualification process for the Men’s World Championship.
