2018 Men's World Championship draw maps out road ahead

 

Florence, Italy, November 30, 2017 - The draw for the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Italy-Bulgaria 2018 on Thursday mapped out the road ahead for the 24 teams set to participate in next year's event.

Co-hosts Italy were paired with Argentina, Japan, Belgium, Slovenia and the Dominican Republic in Pool A, while Bulgaria will take on reigning world champions Poland, Iran, Cuba, Finland and Puerto Rico in Pool D.

In Pool B, Olympic champions Brazil and Canada will play France, Egypt, China and the Netherlands while in Pool C USA and Russia will be up against Serbia, Australia, Tunisia and Cameroon.

Held in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, the draw split the 24 teams participating in the event into four first round pools of six teams each. Click here for more information on the competition format.

Next year's edition of the FIVB's flagship event for men's national teams will take place in three Bulgarian and six Italian cities from September 10-30. It will be followed by the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Japan 2018 from September 29 to October 20. The draw for the Women's World Championship will be held in Tokyo, Japan on December 7.
