Aleksander Sliwka: We were tactically prepared

Varna, Bulgaria, September 13, 2018 – Poland won their second game in Pool D of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. The current champions needed 76 minutes to defeat Puerto Rico by 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-15).

Vital Heynen, coach of Poland: “We played a controlled game, using a lot of players. We try to keep all of them ready to play on a good level further down the tournament but we still managed to win clearly. I think we dominated on serve. In general that was a good game for us. And again we felt a great atmosphere here and we would like to thank all of our supporters.”

Aleksander Sliwka, player of Poland: “It seems like it was an easy win but we were well tactically prepared. We played well and did not give a chance to our opponent Puerto Rico. We are satisfied with this 3-0 win. We did not lose any sets and it is very important due to the formula of the tournament.”

Oswald Antonetti, coach of Puerto Rico: “We could not keep up the high playing level of Poland’s team. Competing in such a big tournament is something completely new for us and it influences our performance for sure. Despite that we are here to fight and we try to improve our game in every aspect.”

Maurice Torres, player of Puerto Rico: “We missed our chance. We still can use the potential of our young players. Some of us have more experience but we could not help the team as well. We let our opponent taking the lead very early in the sets and we were not able to catch up. I hope that we could surprise Bulgarians tomorrow."
