Anastasi: "This was a very tricky match"

Florence, Italy, September 12, 2018 - Belgium were victorious against Argentina as they began their FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship campaign in Pool A in Florence on Wednesday.

Andrea Anastasi, Belgium coach: "This was a very tricky match and both Julio Velasco and I were aware of it, it was a direct fight for the second or third place of the pool. Argentina has much more experience, they take part in every important international tournament like World Championships, Olympic Games or VNL, I was worried about this but I think my players had a great game, taking a brilliant victory."

Sam Deroo, Belgium captain: "I think today we have taken three decisive points in the fight for the top places in this pool, we’re aware that it’s crucial to not waste a single set in order to join the final phases. We played very concentrated today, with a great defence and good teamwork, so we deserved this outcome."

Julio Velasco, head coach Argentina: "We didn’t play a very good match. We failed with defense that should have been our house speciality. Whenever the ball passed our block it was a point for Belgium. Attacking too we were not sufficiently determined. Belgium are worthy of this victory."

Luciano De Cecco, captain of Argentina: "This was not the game we hoped to play. We didn’t play as we can. Belgium played a very good volleyball. This is just the first game we will improve in the next ones."
