Argentina and Belgium meet for the first time in World Championship

 

Florence, Italy, August 28, 2018 - Argentina and Belgium are meeting for the first time in the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship.

Head-to-Head

- Belgium and Argentina will play each other for the first time at a World Championship. Their only previous meetings in a world level major tournament came in the World League.
- The world level major tournaments are Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World League, Grand Champions Cup and Nations League.
- Argentina beat Belgium 3-2 in Varna in the 2015 World League. The result ensured the Argentinians finished 11th, one place ahead of the Belgians.
- Belgium defeated Argentina 3-2 in Tehran in the 2017 World League.

Belgium

- Belgium make their eighth appearance at a World Championship. Their best performance was eighth in 1970.
- Belgium were 17th at the 2014 World Championship, their first appearance at the tournament in 36 years. They won only one of their five matches, 3-0 against Puerto Rico.
- Belgium's worst performance at a World Championship came in 1978, when the tournament was hosted by Italy. They finished 18th.
- All three of Belgium's World Championship matches against CSV opposition were versus Brazil. They lost all three in straight sets (1956, 1966, 1974).

Argentina

- Argentina make their 12th appearance at a World Championship. They made their debut at the tournament in 1960, and have competed in every edition since 1978.
- Argentina's best performance at the World Championship was third in 1982, when they hosted the tournament.
- Argentina's worst performance at a World Championship came in 1978, when the tournament was hosted by Italy. They finished 22nd.
- Argentina were 11th at the 2014 World Championship, winning their final two matches of the tournament against Italy (3-1) and United States (3-2).
