Australia clash with Cameroon in crucial match

Bari, Italy, September 14, 2018 - Australia and Cameroon clash in what could well prove a deciding match in the race for a ticket to the next round of the 2018 FIVB World Championship. The two meet for the third time in World Championship history, with their head-to-head record standing at 1-1.

Head-to-Head
• Australia and Cameroon will meet at the World Championship for the third edition in a row.
• In 2010, Cameroon beat Australia 3-1. Four years later, Australia beat Cameroon 3-0.
• Those are the only two matches between these teams at world level major competitions.
• World level major competitions are: World Championships, Olympic Games, World Cup, World League, Grand Champions Cup and the Nations League.

Australia
• Australia are winless so far in the 2018 World Championship, losing in straight sets against Russia and dropping a tight five-set battle against United States.
• Their 3-2 defeat against United States was their first defeat in a five-setter at World Championships. They had won their previous two matches that went the distance, against Turkey in 1998 and Venezuela in 2014.
• Australia have lost their last six World Championship matches, since that 3-2 victory over Venezuela in the first round four years ago.
• Paul Carroll led his team in scoring in the opener against Russia (13 points), while Lincoln Alexander Williams (21 points) set the tone against United States.

Cameroon
• Cameroon won their opener 3-0 against Tunisia before losing against Serbia with the same score.
• Cameroon have three wins at World Championships, 3-0 against Venezuela in 1990, 3-1 against Australia in 2010 and 3-0 against Tunisia this year. They could win multiple matches at a single World Championship for the first time.
• Ten of Cameroon's 15 total World Championship defeats have come in straight sets. They played only one five-setter in the competition, a 3-2 loss against United States in 2010.
• Nathan Wounembaina led Cameroon in scoring against Serbia with 13 points. David Patrick Feughouo, who was Cameroon's top scorer against Tunisia with 22 points, followed with six points.
