Belgium and Dominican Republic meet for the first time

 

Florence, Italy, September 17, 2018 – Belgium and Dominican Republic will have their first ever encounter in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

Head-to-Head
• Belgium and Dominican Republic will play each other for the first time in a world level major tournament match.
• The world level major tournaments are Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World League, Grand Champions Cup and Nations League.
• Belgium have won five of their 11 World Championship matches against NORCECA opposition.

Belgium
• Belgium beat Japan 3-1 on Sunday to claim their second win at the 2018 World Championship.
• Belgium have now won two matches at this tournament, already one more victory than in their previous World Championship in 2014.
• Belgium could now win three matches at a single World Championship for the first time since 1978 (3 wins).
• 1978 is also the last year in which Belgium won two matches in a row at the World Championship, against Egypt and versus Tunisia.
• Bram Van Den Dries scored a team-high 18 points in Belgium's 3-1 victory over Japan.

Dominican Republic
• Dominican Republic have lost all their four matches at the 2018 World Championships, claiming only one set (in their opener against Slovenia).
• In their only previous World Championship participation in 1974, Dominican Republic lost their first five matches before beating Puerto Rico 3-0.
• Dominican Republic have lost their last three World Championship matches all in straight sets.
• Henry Antonio Lopez Capellan was Dominican Republic's top scorer in all four of their 2018 World Championship matches: 12 points versus Slovenia, 14 versus Japan, 11 versus Argentina and 12 against Italy.
