Brazil look to rebound in match against Canada

 

Ruse, Bulgaria, September 17, 2018 – Brazil are aiming for a win when they face Canada in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship on Sunday, following a 3-1 loss to the Netherlands.

Head-to-Head
• Brazil won all three World Championship matches against Canada in straight sets - 1994 (Athens), 1998 (Hiroshima) and 2014 (Katowice).
• The most recent world level major tournament fixture between Brazil and Canada was on 15 June 2018 in the Nations League. The Canadians won in straight sets in Varna.
• The world level major tournaments are Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• Canada could win consecutive world level major tournament matches against Brazil for the first time.

Brazil
• Brazil started their quest for the World Championship title with wins over Egypt and France, before losing 3-1 against Netherlands on Saturday.
• The last time Brazil lost one of its first three World Championship matches was in 2010, when they immediately countered with a 3-0 win over Poland and eventually became world champions.
• Brazil could lose back-to-back World Championship matches for the first time this century. They have avoided this ever since 1998, when Italy and Cuba proved too strong.
• Wallace De Souza (42 points) leads Brazil in scoring at this World Championship.

Canada
• Canada have started their 2018 World Championship campaign with three victories, 3-0 wins over Netherlands and Egypt and 3-1 against China.
• Canada have won their first three matches for the first time at a World Championship.
• Eight of Canada's last 10 matches at the World Championship were decided in three sets (6 wins, 2 defeats), with the exception of a 3-2 victory over Cuba in 2014 and their 3-1 against China on Saturday.
• Nicholas Hoag led his team in scoring against Netherlands (12 points) and Egypt (24), while John Gordon Perrin paced Canada against China with 26.
• Perrin is now Canada's tournament top scorer with 51 points, four more than Hoag.
