Canada look to double their wins in match with Egypt

 

Ruse, Bulgaria, September 13, 2018 - Canada ssek to double their 2018 FIVB World Championship victories when they take on Egypt, Thursday. In their opening matches Canada beat the Netherlands and Egypt lost to Brazil, both in straight sets. It is the third time Canada and Egypt go head-to-head at a World Championship, with the North Americans having won both previous encounters.

Head-to-Head
• Egypt and Canada will meet for the third time at the World Championship, with Canada winning both previous encounters.
• Canada's World Championship wins against Egypt were 3-2 in Venice in 1978 and 3-0 in Gdansk in 2014.
• Egypt won their first world level major tournament match against Canada, 3-1 in Tokyo at the 1977 World Cup, but have lost all seven since.
• The world level major tournaments are Volleyball Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• The most recent world level major tournament match between Egypt and Canada was a straight-set Canadian win in Ceske Budejovice in the 2016 World League.

Egypt
• Egypt lost their World Championship opener against Brazil in straight sets.
• Egypt have now lost 10 straight World Championship matches, their longest losing streak in the competition.
• Egypt's last win at World Championships came in their opening match of the 2010 tournament, a straight-set victory versus Iran.
• Ahmed Abdelhay (13 points) was the only Egyptian reaching double figures in scoring against Brazil.

Canada
• Canada took off their campaign with a 3-0 win over Netherlands.
• Canada have won their opening match for the third time at a World Championship, after doing so in 1982 and 2006. Only in 2006, they won the first two.
• Canada won six matches during the 2014 World Championship, en route to a team's best seventh place finish.
• Ten players contributed with at least one point against Netherlands. Nicholas Hoag had most of them with 12.
