Chile ready to host South American Men's Championship


Hosts Chile aim to earn a place on the podium at the South American Championship from Monday to Friday

Santiago, Chile, August 5, 2017 - The Chilean cities of Santiago and Temuco will host the 32nd edition of the South American Men's Volleyball Championship from Monday to Friday. The eight teams participating in the competition will play for continental honours and a place at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria.

The city of Temuco will host Group A featuring Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia and Paraguay. Santiago will be the venue for Group B which consists of Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay.

Looking ahead to the event, Chile coach Daniel Nejamkin said: "We are like all the teams that are coming to the tournament - finalizing details, addressing a few issues that have to do with our attack. Hopefully we can advance in this South American Championship and can get onto the podium. That is our goal, and we know it is an ambitious objective that we are proposing."

Brazil have also won all but one of the 31 South American Championship titles to date. Argentina claimed victory in 1964, when the Brazilians did not in participate in the tournament.

Group B - Santiago: Argentina v Peru and Chile v Uruguay

Round 3 - Wednesday, August 9
Group A - Temuco: Venezuela v Paraguay and Brazil v Colombia
Group B - Santiago: Uruguay v Peru and Chile v Argentina
