David Smith with a bunch of new friends in Sofia

Sofia, Bulgaria, September 23, 2018 - David Smith’s campaign at the 2018 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship has been a hit on and off the court. Along with being instrumental in USA winning all of the seven games played, the 33-year old has also made a bunch of new friends.

The American has been born with 80 percent hearing loss. And after USA beat Canada Smith befriended with kids from foundation “I believe in you” who are also suffering from hearing loss. American middle blocker turned a simple photo request into a long conversation in sign language.

Asked by one of the kids “What does it take to play for your country?” the Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medalist answered: “You always have to chase your dreams. And believe in yourself no matter what happens” making this an unforgettable day for his new young friends.
