Draw maps out third round of Men's World Championship

 

Turin, Italy, September 24, 2018 - Brazil, USA and Russia will play in Pool I and Italy, Poland and Serbia will play in Pool J after a drawing of lots ceremony for the 3rd Round of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship was held in Turin on Monday. Matches on Wednesday will see reigning Olympic champions Brazil take on 2018 Volleyball Nations League winners Russia at 17.00, and co-hosts Italy take on Serbia at 21.15 (all times local). USA and Poland play their first 3rd Round matches on Thursday.

The six teams qualified for the 3rd Round were divided into two pools (I and J) of three teams each in the following order:

1.    The 1st ranked teams of Pools E and F were drawn in Pools I and Pool J consecutively;
2.    The 1st ranked teams of Pools G and H were drawn in Pools I and J consecutively;
3.    The 1st best second team among Pools E, F, G and H was placed in Pool I;
4.    The 2nd best second team among Pools E, F, G and H was placed in Pool J.



The teams in the draw were:
Italy (Pool E - 1st), Brazil (Pool F - 1st), USA (Pool G - 1st), Poland (Pool H - 1st), Russia (Pool E - 1st best 2nd), Serbia (Pool H - 2nd best 2nd)

The Drawing of Lots Ceremony for the 3rd Round followed on from the 2nd Round matches last weekend. The 3rd Round matches all take place in Turin from Wednesday, September 26 to Friday, September 28. The semifinals follow on September 29 and the finals on September 30, also in Turin.
