Iran and Canada look to get back on track

 

Sofia, Bulgaria, September 22, 2018 – Iran and Canada are trying to get back on the winning track after losing their previous matches in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

Head-to-Head
• This is the first World Championship meeting between these nations.
• Canada won both previous match-ups at world level major tournaments, 3-0 at the 2015 World Cup and 3-1 at this year's Nations League.
• World level major tournaments are Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.

Iran
• Iran won four of their five matches in the first round before losing in straight sets against Bulgaria on Friday.
• Iran could lose back-to-back World Championship matches for only the second time since the start of the 2010 campaign. They lost three in a row in 2014.
• The only World Championship in which they won more than four matches was 2014, when they ended up with seven victories.
• Amir Ghafour leads Iran on 74 points at this World Championship.

Canada
• Canada started their 2018 World Championship campaign with three victories, before losing the following three matches.
• Canada could lose four matches in a row at the World Championship for the first time since 2006 (4).
• Canada could win at least one set in seven straight World Championship matches for the second time ever, after doing so in their debut tournament in 1974 (7).
• John Gordon Perrin is among the top scorers at the 2018 World Championship on 98 total points. He also paced his team against United States on Friday with 17 points.
