Poland play for place in third round against Serbia

 

Varna, Bulgaria, September 23, 2018 - Poland play their final match in the 2nd Round of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship against Serbia.

Head-to-Head
·    Poland have won all six previous World Championship meetings with Serbia (including Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro).
·    Poland lost only three sets in those six meetings.
·    Serbia have won the last four meetings with Poland at world level major tournaments, including 3-0 in this year's Nations League.
·    World level major tournaments are Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
·    The head-to-head in these competitions is even with both sides winning 15 times (includes matches for Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro).

Poland
•    Defending world champions Poland won the five first round matches in their 2018 World Championship campaign, but lost their two second round matches to Argentina and France.
•    Poland could either win their 100th or lose their 50th match at World Championships. They have 99 wins and 49 defeats so far.
•    Poland could now lose three straight World Championship matches for the first time since 1982-1986, against Bulgaria, Cuba and Soviet Union.
•    Poland have won at least one set in each of their last 20 World Championship matches, equalling their second-longest such run in the tournament, set in 1970-1978. Another set win against Serbia would equal their longest run, 21 matches in 1956-1962.

Serbia
·    After losing their opener, Serbia have now won six matches in a row at the 2018 World Championship.
·    They could win seven straight World Championship matches for the first time since the first eight matches of the 2006 tournament, where they played as Serbia and Montenegro.
·    Serbia beat Argentina 3-0 on Saturday, and could book back-to-back straight-set victories at the World Championship for the first time since 2002, when they played as Serbia and Montenegro.
·    Drazen Luburic (14 points) and Marko Ivovic (12) reached double figures in scoring for Serbia against Argentina on Saturday.
