Serbia aim to keep win streak rolling against Argentina

 

Varna, Bulgaria, September 22, 2018 – Serbia are on a five-match winning streak and the European squad is looking to sustain their momentum when they face Argentina, which handed defending champions Poland its first loss in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

Head-to-Head
• Serbia (including Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro) have won all three previous World Championship meetings with Argentina by 3-1 (2006, 2010 and 2014).
• The head-to-head in all matches in world level major tournaments is 20 victories for Serbia and eight for Argentina.
• World level major tournaments are Nations League, Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
• At this year's Nations League, Serbia beat Argentina 3-1 in Aix-en-Provence (France).

Serbia
• After losing their opener Serbia have now won five matches in a row at the 2018 World Championship. They beat France 18-16 in the fifth set.
• In 2014, Serbia also lost their first World Championship match, before winning their next five encounters in the tournament.
• They could win six straight World Championship matches for the first time since the first eight matches of the 2006 tournament, where they played as Serbia and Montenegro.
• Aleksandar Atanasijevic was the star for Serbia on Friday, scoring a whopping 38 points. He is now his team's best scorer with 87 total points in the tournament.

Argentina
• Argentina have three wins and three defeats at the 2018 World Championship. On Friday, they became the first team to beat defending world champions Poland in this tournament.
• Argentina won the fifth set 16-14 against Poland, after trailing 14-11. They have now been victorious in 13 five-setters at the World Championship, losing 10.
• Their last three World Championship matches have now gone to a decider. Argentina have never played four consecutive World Championship matches that went into a fifth set.
• Argentina could claim their 50th World Championship win. Their overall record at the World Championship is currently 49 victories and 46 defeats.
