Serbia look to bounce back in match agaist Cameroon

 

Bari, Italy, September 13, 2018 - Serbia meet Cameroon Thursday for the second time in World Championship history, after a 3-1 win of the Balkan side in 2014. Serbia have never lost to an African in 14 previous matches at the World Championships. Cameroon opened their 2018 FIVB World Championship campaign with a 3-0 sweep of Tunisia in the African derby on Wednesday, while Serbia lost in five sets to USA.

Head-to-Head
• Once have Cameroon and Serbia met at a World Championship. In 2014, Serbia won 3-1 in the first round.
• That is these teams their only meeting at world level major competitions.
• World level major competitions are: World Championships, Olympic Games, World Cup, World League, Grand Champions Cup and the Nations League.
• Serbia (including Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro) have won all their 14 matches against African opponents at world level major competitions.

Cameroon
• Cameroon won their opener 3-0 against Tunisia.
• Cameroon now have three wins at World Championships, 3-0 against Venezuela in 1990 and 3-1 against Australia in 2010. They could thus win multiple matches within a single World Championship for the first time.
• Between Wednesday's victory and that over Australia in 2010, Cameroon had lost seven successive World Championship matches, their longest ever losing streak in the tournament.
• David Patrick Feughouo was Cameroon's top scorer against Tunisia with 21 points (15 spikes, 3 kill blocks, 3 serve aces).

Serbia
• Serbia lost their opener against United States 3-2 after being up two sets to one.
• Serbia have now lost four straight World Championship matches, most for them as an independent nation. Their last longer run was six matches as Yugoslavia in 1966.
• In 2014, Serbia also lost their first match, but followed up with five straight victories. That opening defeat came against eventual winners Poland (3-0).
• Uros Kovacevic was Serbia's top scorer against United States with 19 points. Srecko Lisinac added five kill blocks.
