Serbia look to retain perfect head-to-head record with Tunisia

 

Bari, Italy, September 15, 2018 - Serbia (1-1) seek to extend their overall head-to-head record Saturday against Tunisia (0-2), which currently stands at 5-0. The two sides have met once before at a World Championship, when Serbia & Montenegro beat the African side in straight sets in 2006.

Head-to-Head
• Serbia (including Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro) have won all their five world level major competition matches against Tunisia.
• World level major competitions are: World Championships, Olympic Games, World Cup, World League, Grand Champions Cup and the Nations League.
• Once these teams met at a World Championship. In 2006, Serbia (then Serbia & Montenegro) beat Tunisia in straight sets in the first group stage.
• These teams most recently met at a world level tournament in 2012, at the Olympic Games. Serbia beat Tunisia 3-1 in the Preliminary Round.

Serbia
• After losing their opener 3-2 against United States, Serbia rebounded with a straight-set win over Cameroon.
• This win ended a four-match losing streak for Serbia at the World Championship, their longest losing streak since 1966 (6 defeats in a row).
• In 2014, Serbia also lost their first match, but they won their next five matches at the tournament.
• For the first time since 2002, Serbia could win consecutive matches in straight sets at the World Championship. Back then, they won four consecutive matches in three sets.
• Uros Kovacevic was Serbia's top scorer against United States with 18 points, but did not play against Cameroon. Drazen Luburic claimed top scoring honours in their second match, netting 19 points.

Tunisia
• Tunisia lost their two matches at the 2018 World Championship in straight sets against Cameroon and Russia.
• Tunisia have now lost each of their last 10 World Championship matches, since a 3-2 win against Puerto Rico in 2006.
• Only once Tunisia lost more successive World Championship matches: 19 defeats from 1974 to 1982.
• Hamza Nagga was Tunisia's top scorer in both of their 2018 World Championship matches. He scored 21 points against Cameroon and nine against Russia.
