Shliapnikov: "I am satisfied. Now, we need to remain focused for the match against Serbia"

Bari, Italy, September 17, 2018 – Russia beat Cameroon 3-0 (25-16, 30-28, 25-15) to prepare for the much anticipated matchup with Serbia coming up on Tuesday night that will close the programme of the competition at PalaFlorio in Bari. Cameroon leaves the tournament after playing in a tough pool and having to deal with the injury suffered by their captain Nathan Wounembaina.

Sergey Shliapnikov, head coach of Russia: “Despite some slight difficulties in a very close second set, we dominated throughout the match. I am satisfied with the result we earned on the court. Now, we need to remain focused while preparing for the match against Serbia. It will be a tough challenge but essential to our participation in this championship.”

Blaise Mayam Re Niof, head coach of Cameroon: “We are really sorry that we did not manage to progress to the second round. Our pool includes very strong teams like the United States, Russia and Serbia. The injuries occurred to some of the players before and during this tournament sensibly affected our aim to book a ticket to the next stage of the championship. We will be ready for the next one to come. We will be working hard to improve and try to become one of the strongest teams in the world. The next event on schedule for my team is the African Volleyball Championship in 2019. We are the third-ranked team in the charts from 2017. We will do our utmost to emerge as the eventual winners!”
