Slovenia hope to maintain perfect start

 

Florence, Italy, September 17, 2018 – Debutants Slovenia are hoping to keep their winning start when they face Argentina on Sunday in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

Head-to-Head
• Argentina and Slovenia will play each other for the first time in a world level major tournament match.
• The world level major tournaments are Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World League, Grand Champions Cup and Nations League.

Argentina
• Argentina started their 2018 World Championship with a win and two defeats.
• Argentina could lose consecutive World Championship matches. In 2014, they had only one losing streak spanning more than one match – three in a row, against Poland, France and Iran.
• Cristian Poglajen was Argentina's top scorer against Italy with 18 points. Poglajen (32 total points) is now Argentina's most prolific scorer at the 2018 World Championship.

Slovenia
• Slovenia, the only debutants at this World Championship, started their campaign in perfect fashion, beating Dominican Republic, Japan and Belgium.
• Slovenia have now won nine world level major tournament matches in a row, stretching their longest winning streak ever.
• Slovenia have played 22 total matches in world level major tournaments. They lost only two, against Greece in the 2016 World League (3-1) and against Japan in the 2017 World League (3-2).
• Tine Urnaut (55 points) is among the most prolific players at the 2018 World Championship.
