Tunisia and Egypt earn tickets to World Championship

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 27, 2017 – Tunisia and Egypt earned berths at the Italy-Bulgaria 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship when they won their semifinals at the CAVB African Qualifier on Friday.

Tunisia had to hold their nerve before they defeated Algeria 3-2 (25-27, 25-14, 21-25, 25-23, 17-15), while Egypt defeated Cameroon 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-23).

The north African sides will now play off for the African Championship title on Sunday.

The tournament doubles as the African Men’s Championship. Egypt are the defending champions and they are also hosting the tournament at the Cairo Stadium Complex from October 22 to 29.

Egypt and Tunisia were two of the three CAVB representatives at the Poland 2014 World Championship, along with Cameroon.

Cameroon still have a chance to join them in Italy and Bulgaria next year. They take on Algeria in the bronze medal match on Sunday with the winner set to earn the third berth at the World Championship.
