Bari, Italy, September 16, 2018 – The United States are seeking to continue their winning streak when they face Cameroon on Sunday, after opening their campaign in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship with three consecutive wins.
Head-to-Head
• This will be the third World Championship meeting between Cameroon and United States.
• In 1990, United States beat Cameroon 3-1 and in 2010 USA won 3-2.
• The only other world level major competition meeting between these teams was at the 1989 World Cup, when USA beat Cameroon in straight sets.
• World level major competitions are: World Championships, Olympic Games, World Cup, World League, Grand Champions Cup and the Nations League.
Cameroon
• Cameroon won their opening match of this World Championship 3-0 against Tunisia, before losing 3-0 to Serbia and 3-1 to Australia.
• In total, Cameroon have won three of their 19 World Championship matches: 3-0 against Venezuela in 1990, 3-1 against Australia in 2010 and 3-0 against Tunisia this year. Cameroon could win multiple matches at a single World Championship edition for the first time.
• Of Cameroon's 19 World Championship matches, only one went into a fifth set. They lost that match 3-2 against United States in 2010.
• Against Australia, David Patrick Feughouo scored a team-high 13 points. He also was Cameroon's top scorer in their match against Tunisia.
United States
• United States have opened their 2018 World Championship with victories against Serbia, Australia and Russia.
• United States could start their World Championship with four victories for the first time since 2002, when they beat Egypt, Brazil, Venezuela and China to open their tournament.
• In 2014, United States won two of the first four World Championship encounters, before following up with four wins on the trot.
• Matthew Anderson (56 points) is United States' tournament top scorer and one of the leading scorers in the tournament altogether.
