Egypt stay on course for World Champs and title defence

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 26, 2017 – Egypt are now one win from qualifying for the Italy-Bulgaria 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and two wins from retaining their African Championship title after they reached the semifinals of the CAVB African Qualifier on Thursday. 

The tournament doubles as the African Men’s Championship. Egypt are the defending champions and they are also hosting the tournament at the Cairo Stadium Complex from October 22 to 29.

Egypt were one of three CAVB representatives at the Poland 2014 World Championship, along with Cameroon and Tunisia. 


The hosts beat Rwanda 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-14) and will now face Cameroon, who needed 123 minutes to best Libya 3-2 (27-25, 22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9).

The other semifinal will be an all-north African match between Algeria and Tunisia. Algeria defeated DR Congo 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-19) and Tunisia defeated Morocco 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-22).
