Fourteen players ready for Puerto Rico's World Championship campaign

 

San Juan, Puerto Rico, September 6, 2018 – Puerto Rican coach Oswald “Ossie” Antonetti has confirmed the 14 players that will participate in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria, which is set to begin in Rome and Varna on September 9.

Antonetti will be using 12 of the 14 players that were active in the XIII Pan American Cup held in Mexico where the squad qualified to the Pan American Games of Lima in 2019.

The team will be composed by setters Angel Perez and Eduardo Goas, wing spikers Pablo Guzman, Eddie Rivera and Sequiel Sanchez, middle blockers Jessie Colon, Jonathan Rodriguez, Pedro Nieves and Pedro Sierra, opposite hitters Maurice Torres, Ezequiel Cruz and Juan Vazquez, and liberos Arnel Cabrera and Dennis del Valle.

Antonetti will be accompanied by assistant coaches Manuel “Wito” Acevedo, Jamille Torres, statistician Luis Ruiz Molini and therapist Wilfredo Nazario.

Puerto Rico will play in Pool D in Varna starting off against Iran, Poland and Bulgaria from September 12 to 14. Then they will meet Finland and Cuba on September 16 and 17.

The top four teams of each pool advance to the second round. The Men’s Volleyball World Championship will be played simultaneously in Italy and Bulgaria until September 30. It will be followed by the Women's World Championship in Japan from September 29 to October 20.
