World Championship tickets in high demand

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, August 21, 2018 – Volleyball fans are being encouraged to act quickly to avoid the disappointment of missing out on tickets for the biggest event in men’s volleyball this year – the Italy-Bulgaria 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. 

Tickets went on sale in February and volleyball fans have been quick to snap them up. In doing so they have ensured that they will see the best teams and best players in men’s volleyball live.


Twenty-four international men’s volleyball teams will descend on Italy and Bulgaria for the tournament that runs from September 9-30. 

Brazil will try to add the world title to the Olympic gold they won at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games, Poland will attempt to win their third gold to go with victories in 1974 and 2014, while FIVB Volleyball Nations League winners Russia will try to win their first world crown since the collapse of the Soviet Union. 


The World Championship will take place across nine cities – three in Bulgaria and six in Italy. 

Co-hosts Italy will open the tournament against Japan in Rome at the Foro Italico on September 9. Bari, Bologna, Florence and Milan will also host group matches, and the semifinals and medal matches will take place at Pala Alpitour in Turin. 

In Bulgaria capital Sofia, Black Sea resort Varna, and Ruse that lies on the Danube will host pools. 

The first phase features the 24 teams competing in a round-robin of four pools of six. The top four teams from each pool advance to Round 2, which consists of four pools of four. The top-ranked teams from each of the second round pools qualify for the two three-team pools of Round 3, which will be followed by semifinals and the medal matches.
